Donor-supported Scholarships & Awards

Each year, the English Department awards a number of scholarships to undergraduate students. Eligible students may apply for scholarship awards听annually.听 Students can apply for 2024-25听English scholarships and awards听between December 1, 2023听- January 31, 2024.

The combination of all financial aid awarded including scholarships, grants, loans and work-study cannot exceed your total cost of attendance. If you receive a scholarship, it may impact your other financial aid awards. CU 色吧亚洲 will use private scholarships to replace loans and/or work-study before adjusting any university grants or scholarships. Students will receive a revised award letter if there are any changes to their financial aid.听

A note about the taxation of scholarships:听Scholarships received that exceed your total cost of tuition and required fees, books, and educationally related supplies and equipment are subject to federal income tax. Scholarships, fellowships or grants that are designated for room and board, transportation, and personal expenses may be taxable as income. Keep your receipts and copies of university bills. Questions regarding taxation of scholarships should be addressed to the local IRS office where you can obtain听.

Complete List of Undergraduate Scholarships & Eligibility Requirements

To apply, students must first complete the university鈥檚 general scholarship application in BuffPortal,听following these step-by-step instructions.听 Once the听general application is complete, applicants will be able to view and apply for the English scholarships for which they are eligible.

Applicants who complete their general application before January 2听will need to log back into the application interface between January 15 and February 15 to view and apply for English Scholarships.听

The Alex McGuiggan Scholarship

This scholarship was established to recognize the achievement of an undergraduate English major studying creative writing with a preference for students whose strength is in writing poetry. The scholarship was established in memory of Alex McGuiggan, an English major at the University of Colorado 色吧亚洲.

The Curtis Michael Gimeno Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship benefits students with a creative writing emphasis who exemplify promise of talent in communicating through written language. The scholarship was generously established by Donna Jorgenson Farrell in memory of her son, Curtis Michael Gimeno, who enjoyed writing.
